Today at 6:30 PM: Tuesday Girlfriends Discussion Group

Hello Friends, so very happy to see the sunshine this morning!!!  I hope you have found a copy of our newest book, "Tomorrow Will Be Different", Love, loss and the fight for Trans equality, by Sarah McBride.  Let's read the introduction by President Joe Biden and the first 2 chapters.  If you need a book or have questions let Diana DeKorte or Barb Huitema know.  Busy month with lots to catch up on.  Heads up on" get to know you" question--I asked this at our senior center Bible Study--John the Baptist was most likely an only child and the Bible says Jesus had siblings--What do you think about being an only child verses part of a family, with siblings??  Talk about your siblings--what do you think?  Remember Marilyn Gillette's family as they travel to Michigan this week.  Looking forward to "seeing " you all. Stay safe and stay warm--blessings to you all. Barb

Today at 5:00 PM: Mobile Food Pantry

Let's work together on February 5, 2025.  St. John's UCC in partnership with Sudanese Grace Episcopal Church will host a Feeding America Mobile Food Pantry at 1550 Oswego NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504.  Volunteers will gather at 5:00 pm., distribution starts at 6:00 pm. We are an equal opportunity provider.  Last month, we served 133 households, 442 individuals, 139 children, 82 seniors and 5 veterans.  A total of 28 volunteers braved frosty weather and moved 4,421 pounds of food.  A big thank you to all who braved a Michigan winter night to feed our neighbors.  Ben and Tiera Teidt were new to our crew and Peter Hulchilt returned after a long work-related absence.  Carol Stechow donated 26 colorful knitted hats to disperse in our community. A small donation of surplus food was delivered to UCOM by Richard Johnson.  LeAnn Merrill brought homemade cookies to keep energy levels high.  For more information about the Mobile Food Panty, feel free to call Teresa Markoski at 616-690-4566 or contact at tmarkoski2004@yahoo.com.  Finacial support is always welcome by donating on the church app or writing a personal check to St. John's United Church of Christ, 1934 Bridge Street, Grand Rapids, MI, 49504. Together, we serve.  https://stjohnsuccgr.org/mobile-food-pantry-nds

Today at 6:30 PM: Tuesday Girlfriends Discussion Group

Dear Friends, The senior center that I volunteer at on Wednesdays is closed, I will miss my co-workers, but am happy to be home!!! All Good.  So we are coming to the end of of our discussion of, "Kitchen Table Wisdom" by Rachel Naomi Remen.  This book was really filled with wisdom and if you want to borrow my copy---let me know.  I purchased it used and has some wonderful well wishes for person named, Matt.  We got as far as page 273," Grandmother Eve" and will start there next Tuesday and finish this book.  We hope to study, "Tomorrow Will Be Different, Love, Loss and the Fight for Trans Equality" by Sarah McBride.  Little different than our usual book choices, but I think very relevant--also a very excellent read.  To give you all a chance to get the book, we will take a few weeks off and start our discussion again on February 25, 2025. Any new joiners are welcome always!!!  Stay warm and stay safe!!! Barb
