Wednesday, February 18, 2026: Ash Wednesday Service

St John’s UCC is holding an Ash Wednesday Service on February 18th at 7 pm in the sanctuary. The service is being led by the 7 members of the Confirmation Class.

The sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated and people will also be invited to come forward to receive the imposition of ashes. The ashes are used to keep us in mind of our humble origin and of how the body of Adam, our forefather, was formed out of the dust of the earth; also to remind us of death, when our bodies will return to dust, and of the necessity of doing penance for our sins.

Today at 5PM: Mobile Food Pantry

A Feeding America West Michigan Mobile Food Pantry is scheduled on February 4, 2026, sponsored by St. John's UCC in partnership with Sudanese Grace Episcopal Church.  Volunteers will gather at 5:00 pm at 1550 Oswego NW, Grand Rapids, Michigan, 49504. Distribution begins at 6:00 pm. Last month, we distributed 5,437 pounds of food to 110 households, 361 individuals, 96 children, 81 seniors and 5 veterans.  Our volunteer army stood 31 volunteers strong. A big thank you to Tarah Teidt and Hypatia Morris Armock who were new to our crew.  A small amount of surplus food was delivered to UCOM by Richard Johnston.  Clients received 74 hand knitted hats, mittens and scarves made by love by Carol Stechow and an anonymous donor.  We are incredibly grateful to our donors and supporters of the mobile food pantry.  Because of you, we're able to serve our community. Financial support is welcome by donating on the church app or by mailing a check to St. John's UCC, 1934 Bridge Street NW, Grand Rapids, MI, 49504.  For more information about the mobile food pantry, contact Teresa Markoski at tmarkoski2004@yahoo.com or at 616-690-4566. We continue to be an equal opportunity provider.  Together we serve.
