Sermon from February 22, 2015 by Rev. Dr. Bill Lyons.
Ash Wednesday worship gathered in Fellowship Hall, beyond the reach of our recording capability. Here's a transcript of the sermon and a copy of the liturgy for home worship (youtube music video links included).
Rev. Nicole Havelka, Southwest Regional Minister for the Michigan Conference UCC was our guest preacher today.
During our prayers:
We joined our Muslim sisters and brothers in making du'a for Deah Shaddy Barakat, his 21-year-old wife, Yusor Mohammad, and her sister, 19-year-old Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha. We invite you to join us in our supplication:
‘O Alaah, forgive and have mercy upon them, excuse them and pardon them, and make honorable their reception. Expand their entry, and cleanse them with water, snow, and ice, and purify them of sin as a white robe is purified of filth. Exchange their home for a better home, and their family for a better family, and their spouse for a better spouse. Admit them into the Garden, protect them from the punishment of the grave and the torment of the Fire.’
We remembered in prayer the family of Kayla Meuller.
We remembered Yazmin Vash Payne, Ty Underwood, Lamia Beard, Taja DeJesus, and Penny Proud, five transgender women of color killed since January 1.
