Wednesday, August 02, 2023: Mobile Food Pantry

On the first Wednesday of every month, at least one hour before distribution starts, cars are lined up waiting for food assistance.  In July, we served a record number of 106 households, 336 individuals, 108 children, 76 seniors and 5 veterans.  A big thank you to 25 volunteers who worked in the sweltering summer heat.  New to the crew included Nancy Carlson, Judy Merrills, Becky Tiedt and Lexi, 10-year-old granddaughter of Richard and Christine Johnson.  The menu included apples, grapes, cucumbers, peppers, milk, cookies, pasta, mushrooms and sweet potatoes, weighing in at 5.400 pounds collectively. A small amount of surplus food was delivered to UCOM by Richard Johnson.  The West Michigan Feeding America Mobile Food Pantry sponsored by St. John's, in partnership with Sudanese Grace Episcopal Church returns on August 2, 2023.  Volunteers gather at 5:00 PM at 1550 Oswego NW, Grand Rapids, MI, 49504. Distribution begins at 6:00 pm. For more information, feel free to contact Teresa Markoski at 616-690-4566 or at tmarkoski2004@yahoo.com,  Financial support is welcome by using the church app or by writing a personal check to St. John's UCC, 1934 Bridge Street NW, Grand Rapids, MI., 49504.  Thank you for making a difference for our neighbors facing hunger, together we serve.

Today at 5:00 PM: Mobile Food Pantry

Food pantries have seen a jump in demand, need fueled by inflation and cuts in federal aid. The June Mobile Food Pantry sponsored by St. John's was record braking, serving 88 households, 348 individuals, 63 seniors. 145 children, and 14 veterans.  A total of 21 amazing volunteers distributed 4,856 pounds of food: the menu included macaroni and cheese, apples, asparagus, milk, sweet potatoes, hazelnuts, bread and protein shakes. A small amount of surplus food was delivered to UCOM by Richard Johnson.  On July 5 volunteers will gather at 5:00 pm at Sudanese Grace Episcopal Church, located at 1550 Oswego NW, Grand Rapids, MI, 49504. Food distribution begins at 6:00 pm.  For more information, feel free to contact Teresa Markoski @ 616-690-4566 or at tmarkoski2004@yahoo.com.  Finacial support is always appreciated by using the church app or by sending a personal check to St, John's UCC, 1994 Bridge Street NW, 49504.  A big thank you to all who support the Mobile Food Pantry, it takes a community working together to feed America.  Together we serve.
