Please join us for in-person worship at 10:00 a.m. The current CDC Community Risk rating for Kent and Ottawa counties is LOW:

  • If you are ill or think you are ill, please stay home and join us online

  • We will run air purifiers/circulators within the sanctuary when people are present

  • We will keep windows open when possible when people are present

  • We recommend increased distancing

Sunday, January 29, 2023: Soup Cook Off

In the middle of winter we need something to warm us. Much like our chili cook-off,  this will be a soup cook-off .  So break out your cook books and bring your soups to church on the 29th.  Bread and crackers will be provided.  As always, a fabulous prize will be awarded to the winner!

Wednesday, February 01, 2023: Mobile Food Pantry

It is only cold if you are standing still.   The January Feeding America Mobile Food Pantry provided a box of food for 73 households, 236 individuals, 47 seniors, 83 children and 9 veterans. One load of surplus food was delivered to UCOM by Richard Johnson.  Volunteers will gather again on Wednesday, February 1 at 5pm at Sudanese Episcopal Church, 1550 Oswego NW, Grand Rapids, MI, 49504.  Distribution starts at 6 pm. A monthly pledge of $545.00 is given to Feeding America to purchase food for 70-110 families, Finacial donations are welcome by using the church app or by writing a personal check and mailing it to St, John's United Church of Christ, 1934 Bridge Street NW, Grand Rapids, MI., 49504.  Thank you for your continued support. Hello Ladies

Tonights discussion was very interesting and insightful. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Next week Jan 23rd as we continuing reading “Wholehearted Faith” by Rachel Held Evans. We will start at the beginning  of Chapter 3 on page 41 and end our weekly read at the end of part 1 on page 76. Barb says to Google Jonathan Edwards before reading chapter 6?? 

This group is open to anyone who enjoys reading and learning a little more about God, Jesus Christ or the Bible. We try to keep reading to about 50 pages a week and discuss that was read at the meetings.

We welcome new members,thoughts and ideas. Come join us and get to know us.

We have started our new read/ book “Wholehearted Faith” by Rachel Held Evans

I’m sure we will enjoy this book as much as some of her others we have read.

They are always enlightening and enjoyable reading.

We are always open to new members joining us. We welcome new thoughts and ideas.

To join, just get a copy of the book and zoom in with us on Tuesday nights.

For Jan 17th we will be reading chapter 1 and 2 (pages 17 to 40) for discussion..

Today at 5:00 PM: Mobile Food Pantry

Happy New Year!  If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity near you during 2023, working on the St. John's Feeding America Mobile Food Pantry could be your calling.  Three days before Christmas Eve, 21 volunteers found time to distribute food to 91 households, 284 individuals, 41 seniors, 96 children and 11 veterans.  Clients enjoyed knitted hats and scarfs made and donated by Carol Stechow. The next event is scheduled on January 4, 2023, at Sudanese Grace Episcopal Church, located at 1550 Oswego NW, Grand Rapids, MI, 49504. Volunteers gather at 5 pm, distribution starts at 6 pm.  Finacial donations are welcome by using the church app or by writing a check to St. John's, designating Mobile Food Pantry on the memo.  The mailing address for St. John's UCC is 1934 Bridge Street NW, Grand Rapids, Mi, 49504.  Thank you for your continued support.  Together we serve.
