"I Have a Dream" Turns 50

This week marks the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.

This is a time to ask ourselves if we really live in a post-racist society, or if racism has simply moved underground. This is a time to ask ourselves if all Americans are truly free, or if "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" is fully realized only by some Americans.  This is a time to ask ourselves if "liberty and justice for all" is a dream every child can expect, or if it is the reasonable expectation only of privileged children.

What still needs to happen for justice to flood our land and for righteousness to be the free-flowing river the prophet Amos and Dr. King envisioned?  Now is the time to take up that work as God's people.
