Wednesday, October 01, 2025: Mobile Food Pantry

A Feeding America West Michigan Mobile Food Pantry is scheduled on October 1,2025, sponsored by St. John's UCC in partnership with Sudanese Grace Episcopal Church.  Volunteers will gather at 5:00pm, 1550 Oswego NW, Grand Rapids, MI, 49504.  Distribution will begin at 6:00 pm.  Last month, we distributed 4,518 pounds of food to 123 households, 419 individuals, 154 children, 101 seniors, and 6 Veterans.  An army of 29 volunteers showed up in the rain to make a difference by addressing food insecurity with our neighbors.  Jeffrey Dick and granddaughter Rizzy Williams delivered a small amount of surplus food to UCOM.  We continue to be an equal opportunity provider.  For more information about the Mobile Food Pantry, feel free to contact Teresa Markoski at 616-690-4566 or at tmarkoski2004@yahoo.com.  Finacial support is always welcome by donating on the church app , or by writing a personal check.  The mailing address to St. John's UCC is 1934 Bridge Street, Grand Rapids, MI, 49504.  We are stronger together, together we serve.

Today at 6:30 PM: Tuesday, Friends Book Discussion Group

Dear Friends, We spent some time discussing current events and our feelings on things happening in our country.  We also shared stories of our current and past jobs, which was fun to hear and build more connections.  So we will try to finish our book, "The Return of the Prodigal Son", by Henri Nouwen.  We left off on page 106, after the subtitle --The Heart of God.  We pick up with the quote Bren used in her message to us, a week ago.  Come with more book ideas for future discussions.  And keep thinking about what you have read lately that makes your soul sing!!!  We  can talk about that in the next weeks.  Have a great week everyone.  Barb

Dear Friends, We had a wonderful beginning discussion on "The Return of the Prodigal Son" by Henri J. M. Feeding America West Michigan Mobile Food Pantry is scheduled on September 3, 2025, sponsored by St. John's UCC in partnership with Sudanese Grace Episcopal Church.  Volunteers will gather at 5:00 pm at 1550 Oswego NW, Grand Rapids, 49504.  Distribution will begin at 6:00 pm. Dear Friends, We finished our Anne Lamott book this past Tuesday evening.  We will take next Tuesday off to enjoy the holiday.  Then on September 2, 2025 we will begin discussing, "The Return of the Prodigal Son, A story of Homecoming", by Henri J.M. Nouwen.  Let's read about the first 44 pages, through Chapter 2.  My used book came with a postcard size painting by Rembrandt and I find my self looking at it as I read.  Hope you can join us in a discussion of this parable --and the painting.  Enjoy the weather change and see you Sunday.  Barb
