Wednesday, September 04, 2024: Mobile Food Pantry

Let's work together on Wednesday September 4, 2024.  St. John's UCC in partnership with Sudanese Grace Episcopal Church will host a Feeding America West Michigan Mobile Food Pantry at 1550 Oswego NW, Grand Rapids, MI, 49504. Volunteers will gather at 5:00 pm, distribution begins at 6:00 pm. We are an equal opportunity provider. Last month, a total of 22 hard working volunteers distributed 6,337 pounds of food.  A small amount of surplus food was delivered to UCOM by Richard Johnston and Jeffery Dick.  Fifteen boxes of Pop Tarts were donated to the Grandview Apartments share table.  The Mobile Food Pantry ministry was able to reach 132 households, 438 individuals, 96 seniors, 165 children and 16 veterans.  For more information feel free to contact Teresa Markoski at 616-690-4566 or at tmarkoski2004@yahoo.com.  Financial support is always welcome by using the church app or by mailing a check to St. Johns's United Church of Christ, 1934 Bridge Street NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504.  It takes a village to feed our neighbors, together we serve.

Sunday, September 08, 2024: Fall Kick-off

We’re excited to kick off our 2024-25 church programs with a special event after service on Sunday, September 8 — and we’d love for you to be a part of it!

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠:

After our 10am service, we’ll gather outside (weather permitting) for a delicious lunch, some yard games, and connect and celebrate with our vibrant community! In the case of inclement weather, we'll head downstairs to our fellowship hall.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩:

Invite a Friend: Know someone who’s been thinking about joining us or looking for a progressive spiritual community? This is a great time to bring them along! Let’s show them the warmth and spirit of our St. John's UCC family.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐈𝐭:

This day is all about coming together, recharging our spirits, and getting excited for the incredible journey ahead. Whether you’re new to the church or have been with us for years, this is a day to feel connected, inspired, and ready for what’s to come.

We can’t wait to see you there! Let’s make this the best year yet.

Blessing of the Backpacks

Students (and teachers) of all ages are encouraged to bring their backpacks (laptop bags, etc)  to worship Sunday, August 25 so that we may bless the bags our students and teachers will carry throughout the school year. This blessing symbolizes the wider support each student and teacher will receive from their church family as they journey through another year of learning. We will also be officially "dedicating" our teachers and volunteers at St. John's for the school year on this day.

Today at 6:30 PM: Tuesday Girlfriends Discussion Group

Hello Everyone!!! We are going to continue our discussion on the book, "The Bible Tells Me So... Why defending scripture has made us unable to read it" , by Peter Enns.  We will be reading thru Page 32.  Sorry I missed you all this past Tuesday--no more vacation days for me!!!! Enjoy the cool weather and see you on Sunday.
