Girlfriends group

Hello Ladies

Well we did it. We finished the book “A Bigger Table” by John Pavlovitz.

So it’s on to a new book. After a few weeks break.

Starting  on Nov. 1st at 6:30 pm we will start the book “The unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry” by Rachel Joyce. As I, like all of you, do not have the book yet, how far we will read will be sent later, closer to the start of the next meeting.

In the meantime, take a break, breathe deeply, enjoy life, have fun, but be safe.

Hope to see all of you on Sunday.

Prayer to Bren and her family on the passing of her father. Please know we are here if we can help any.

Get well wishes to Jean.

Today at 10:00 AM: Blessing of the Animals

The Annual Blessing of the Animals will be during our service on October 9. Pets that are people friendly are encouraged to be in attendance. Photos of pets that are not happy travelers or who might not react well to the sounds and sights of a church service may be brought instead to receive a blessing. Children are encouraged to also bring their special cuddly stuffed animals to receive a blessing too. All pets attending should be under the control of their family at all times. Come share your furry, feathered, scaled, or shelled friend with your church family!

Today at 5:00 PM: Mobile Food Pantry

It's time to work side by side to end hunger.  Last month we provided 4,400 pounds of food to 90 families, 295 individuals, 73 seniors, 98 children and 11 veterans.  A small amount of surplus food was donated to UCOM.  Rising numbers of our neighbors visiting the Mobile Food Pantry continue to climb, even more that at the beginning of the pandemic.  October 5 will be the next opportunity to volunteer at the Mobile Food Pantry.  Food is purchased from Feeding America, sponsored by St. John's UCC.  The Sudanese Grace Episcopal Church provides the distribution site and storage space at 1500 Oswego NW, Grand Rapids, MI, 49504. Volunteers arrive at 5:00 pm., distribution starts at 6:00 pm. Feel free to contact Teresa Markoski at 616-690-4566 or at tmarkoski2004@yahoo.com for further information.  Donate to the St. John's Mobile Food Pantry by accessing the church give app.  Personal checks are accepted.  Please make checks payable to St. John's United Church of Christ, designate Mobile Food Pantry in the memo.  Our address is St. John's UCC, 1934 Bridge Street NW, Grand Rapids, MI, 49504. Today at 6:31 PM: Girlfriends

Hey Ladies

Well we made it into Chapter 16 of the book “A Bigger Table “ by John Pavlovitz.
We will be starting at the beginning of chapter 16 page  153 and reading/ discussing to the endof the book page 184.

We are hopeful to finish this book up. Normally we take a few week break at the end of a book. That is to order/ purchase the next book. Susan our keeper of our list of books says the next book suggested is ”The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry” by Rachel Joyce.  We will be having a short discussion period at the beginning of our meeting to talk about this book and if it is the next one for our group to  read/ discuss.
If you have other suggestions, please bring them and a bit about the book(s) to the meeting. We are open to all suggestions.

The meeting will start at 6:30pm on Tuesday Oct. 4th until 8pm.

Zoom information will be included in this link.

We are always interested in new “groupies” that share an interest in reading and discussing books. Trying to understand and live Gods love and gifts to the fullest. Helping others see the love and ways of Christ. Rejoice in the fellowship of each other.

To those traveling, be safe, stay health, have fun and enjoy the world God has created for us.

To those unwell, prayers and blessing your way that you start to feel better and able to enjoy the friends and family around you that are praying for your recovery.

Hope to see all of you Sunday and Tuesday.  Here if I can help any.

Prayers and blessing to all of you.

Sunday, October 30, 2022: Trunk or Treating

Everyone is invited on Sunday October 30,2022 to the Trunk or Treat event!

This will be after the church service and fellowship hour about 11:45/noon in the big parking lot behind the church.

Find a spot in the parking lot, decorate your car/trunk, and have a supply of goodies to hand out to the trick-or-treaters.

Should be fun for all!

Adults can wear costumes if you want/like.

Kiddos: Invite a friend to come join you. After church put on your costume and get ready to find goodies. Don't forget a bag/pumpkin/something to collect your goodies in.

Have fun and be safe. You still are in a parking lot, so watch out for moving cars and little kids.

Let’s all enjoy some fun and seeing our members in their costumes. No age limit!

Sunday, October 02, 2022: Chili Cook-Off and Bread Auction

The St. John's annual chili cook-off and bread auction is happening this Sunday (October 2).

Bring your best chili and enjoy tasting and voting on everyone's chili. While enjoying our chili lunch, the children will auction off bread to benefit the St. John's education program.

Please consider donating bread to the auction as well. Bread can be store bought or home made.

We are able to accept cash, check, or credit card at the auction this year.

We can't wait to taste everyone's chili and watch the cutest auctioneers sell some bread.
