Please consider helping St John's UCC to support a family from Afganistan. We have a family that is currently get settled in Grand Rapids and needs our support in many ways. Right now, we could use monetary support to buy groceries and toiletries. You can easily give on the church app and choose "Refugee Support." You can also mail a check to the church. Thank you for your continued support in the community outreach of our church.
Welcome to Sunday morning! This is the day that God has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it! This Sunday, our worship will be led by Barb Huitema.
While the COVID pandemic numbers in our area are above our target metrics, we continue to worship exclusively online. A small team of worship leaders (pastor, music director, liturgist, cantor, and tech) will broadcast the service from the sanctuary.
You may join the worship service via our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/stjohnsuccgr/ , our YouTube channel at http://alturl.com/etrte , or our website at https://stjohnsuccgr.org/ at 10:00 a.m.
There are links below this message to the order of service, the weekly Journal, a children's bulletin for the week's lectionary readings, a youth Bible Study, an Adult Bible Study, and a devotional guide for the week. Please share these resources with your family and friends and know that we are joined together across any distances or difficulties that might separate us.
When the service completes, please join us on Zoom for a time of fellowship using this link:

UCOM (the United Church Outreach Ministry), seeks donations and volunteers in this Christmas season. See UCOM is in Need of Donations — St. John's United Church of Christ (stjohnsuccgr.org) for more information about the current ways in which we can help.
Donations are VERY MUCH APPRECIATED - particularly because UCOM has a list of gifts promised for 125 people. A UCOM affiliate created a gift tag tree with 125 tags but UCOM has only received 60 of those gifts. They are now purchasing gifts for the remaining people. UCOM has some monies in a general fund for this purpose (estimated 20-30 gifts), but this is not likely to be enough. That would still leave 35 gifts remaining. Please consider helping to support this outreach effort to UCOM clients, seniors in the UCOM ministry outreach circle!
Two options for donating:
Sending a check (or delivering to UCOM):
United Church Outreach Ministry
1311 Chicago Dr SW
Wyoming, MI 49509
You may write "senior gifts" in the note area.
Going online to the UCOM website & making a donation there (United Church Outreach Ministry :: Home (ucomgr.org)). If a person would like to designate "for senior gifts", there is a space for a note.
The clergy of the Grand West Association will offer a live-streamed (via Zoom) Longest Night Service of memories and reflection on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 7PM.
This service will acknowledge that this season, while merry and bright for many, is not so for some. Mixed feelings of grief and loss mingle with the anticipation of the season. This is a time to express longing and joy together.
