Each Wednesday evening during Lent (March 13, March 20, March 27, April 3, April 10) at 6:30pm, we will begin with a meaningful prayer and a light supper of soup, salad, and bread, followed by your Spiritual Gifts Class led by Pastor Wes. On Friday, March 15 at 7pm you are invited to the Grand Rapids Griffins Hockey Game with St. John's UCC! The Griffins take on the Rockford Ice Hogs at VanAndel Arena (130 Fulton St. Grand Rapids, MI 49503). It's 90s Theme Night and $2 beer, $2 hot dog night at this Friday, March 15 game.

Gather with us at 7:30pm on March 6 for our 2019 Community Ash Wednesday Service. We’ll enter the Lenten season together by sharing a light dinner and experiencing an evening worship service led by Rev. Wes Jamison. You are invited to accept the imposition of ashes and communion. All are welcome!

On Monday, December 24 at 9pm, you are invited to gather at St. John’s United Church of Christ for our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. If you would like to attend but do not want to drive at night, we will have a member come pick you up and drive you home after the service. If you are willing and able to pick up a member or two in your car for the round trip journey, please drop a note into the collection plate during the offering, or email the church at office@stjohnsuccgr.org and let Sally know if you are a driver or passenger. On Sunday, December 23 at 10am, you are invited to the St. John’s Youth Christmas Pageant. If you have questions regarding participation, please see Becky Tiedt. Rehearsals continue each Sunday immediately following service at 11am throughout December leading up to the December 23 presentation.
Reminder: Sunday, Nov. 25 is Hanging of the Greens! Join us for this wonderful annual tradition after the 10am service. We’ll gather to deck the halls and sanctuary with trees, garland, wreaths, centerpieces, lights and more before we enjoy a wonderful lunch together in fellowship hall. All ages are welcome!
Families with last names beginning with A-K are asked to bring a crock pot of soup or crackers to share. Families with last names L-Z, please bring a salad or bread to share. Help us decorate for Advent and Christmas. Let’s make the season bright together!
We are blessed to provide Thanksgiving Baskets for several local families in need this season. How can you help? We have two Sundays left! (1) Please bring in non-perishable food donations to church on Sunday, November 11 and Sunday, November 18. (2) Donate cash for a turkey and other needed items. (3) Volunteer to deliver one of our assembled dinner baskets to a local West side family on Sunday, November 18 after church. The Annual Grand Rapids Area Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held on Monday, November 19, 7pm - 8:30pm at this year’s host location: Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 2780 Leonard Street NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525.
Let’s gather and experience a variety of prayers, music, sacred writings, reflections and meditations woven together with the common theme of gratitude from many traditions. The keynote speaker is Dr. Aly Mageed, reflecting on “Living and Serving Together.”
A light reception featuring foods from various traditions follows the event. A free-will offering will be accepted for the refugee resettlement work of Samaritas and Bethany Christian Services.
