Who We Are: Open and Affirming

Our welcome to and affirmation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, and our support of marriage equality for all couples regardless of gender, is based on our study and understanding of the Bible. From our time in God's Word we have come to embrace a number of core values. One of those core values is inclusion:

We accept all people as being created in the image of God, uplifting and celebrating their worth and integrity, and engaging them authentically rather than as categories or classes.

Our affirming relationships with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Christians is intentional. We invite you to be affirming and intentional in your relationships with your lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender family members and friends. Don't believe "it" just because someone told you, "The Bible says..." Discover for yourself what the Bible really says about gay Christians. It may surprise you!

St. John's UCC is just one congregation among more than 1,200 local church in the United Church of Christ that welcomes LGBT people to participate in the full life and ministry of the Church.  And the United Church of Christ is just one of more than 40 denominations that do or are on a trajectory toward welcoming all persons regardless of sexual orientation or gender expression.
