St. John's UCC serves downtown at Dégagé Shelter on select dates throughout the year. Dégagé offers help and hope to 400 - 500 homeless and disadvantaged individuals in our Grand Rapids community every day. St. John's United Church of Christ supports Dégagé's efforts to address immediate and long-term needs by providing and serving dinner. We reflect the love of Christ to all who come through the doors by offering kindness and compassion, which foster dignity and respect.
Serve with us
Volunteers must be over age 16 to work at Dégagé. Opportunities include carpooling from our church (meeting at St. John's parking lot at 5:15pm) or meeting downtown at Dégagé at 5:30pm to set up. We serve dinner from 6pm - 7pm on the dates listed below. Dégagé is located at 144 Division Ave, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
Food for this event is provided. The meal we serve is most often provided by Sue and David Bradford, long time members of St. John's UCC. Their many, many trays of fresh, delicious, piping hot lasagna serve a couple hundred people and are a welcome sight to everyone!
